Free taster lesson

We’re currently taking applications for September’s new courses, but spaces are somewhat limited, so please fill out the form for information on dates and times, and to be added to the list!

Our taster lessons should be held within the first week of August.

About

At Hive Kids we help your kids develop the skills they’ll need for GCSE English, in a way they’ll enjoy.

Courses are planned in line with the current curriculum, and meet key assessment skills and requirements for key stages. The tutor* hosts lessons and creates engaging cross-curricular activities that work alongside the course for independent engagement.

Our courses develop your child’s English language skills, social skills, and time-management skills in a way they’ll enjoy and get excited about. The group sessions, are purposefully kept small to ensure that your child has plenty of space to contribute. We encourage students to be curious, and to share their thoughts and opinions.

Don’t just take our word for it! Sign up for one of our taster classes and find out why our kids love learning with us!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Location: Zoom (we have students all over the country!)
  • Age range: We have students aged between 11 and 14. Your child’s success and enjoyment of the course will depend on where they are in their English education, but our courses do cater to a wide range of abilities
  • What your child will need: A stable zoom connection, a pen, paper, and their camera on
  • Class length: 90 minutes
  • Class structure: We’d like the taster lesson to resemble a real class as much as possible. The first hour and fifteen minutes will be a lesson, and the remaining time will allow for parents to ask questions about our courses and how they work. Because we’d like the children to get a sense of what our lessons are really like, we ask that you allow them to be on camera and participate independently.
  • You’re welcome to observe, however, our sessions actively encourage learners to be responsible and accountable for their work and participation from the outset – we’ve had much success with this approach.

What our kids say

What do you enjoy about our lessons?

“I love how it is made fun. Also all of the different activities there are to do.”

“I like it when we read part of the book because then it gives us all a chance to share what we think about that chapter.”

“That they are not boring and that my teacher is funny.”

Have our courses helped you with anything specific in English?

“Language techniques, spelling, vocabulary, and creative writing.”

“Pretty much all my creative stuff, my grammar, and my spelling.”

Would you recommend the courses to other kids you know? What would you say?

“Yes, because I think it’s a good chance to learn more about writing and creativity.”

“Yes I would because I enjoy them so much, it’s my fav lesson.”

“I would recommend this course. I would say that the teacher is really cool 😎 and that the course is super fun and easy to understand.”

“I would say “it’s pretty cool”.”

What our parents say

“Sienna loves Hive Kids! Each course challenges and pushes her on how she understands a variety of texts and also her reasoning. The interaction within the class allows for differing perspectives.
I look at the projects sienna has completed, and I am completely amazed at the depth of understanding that’s been drawn from the books or films.
Every lesson all can hear is laughter and giggles – it’s done in such a fun way they don’t even realise what they’ve completed is super challenging. Learning without it feeling a chore is down to having a brilliant study programme and an amazing teacher.
It’s learning on another level.
” – Sarah, England.

“The Hive course is great, my daughter has really enjoyed it over the last year and will definitely continue with it. Charlie is a fab teacher, brings out the best in Emily and has really helped her confidence improve.
Great communication from Charlie and Kathrine, and the feedback at the end of each term is really helpful. Would highly recommend!”
– Rosie, Wales.
